Welcome to the Community of Matthew, the Fellowship of Matthew, a unique spiritual community that focuses on the words of Jesus as seen in the Book of Matthew, one that is not associated with any religion or organization

As I wrote on the masthead, this is a community of people who enjoy reading the words of Jesus Christ in the New Testament, with the major focus being on the book written by Matthew, though we will also look at the other Synoptics — Mark, Luke, and John,

This fellowship will bring together those who love the words of Jesus Christ in the Book of Matthew, though it will look at the other three Synoptics, too. From the Sermon on the Mount to the advice on turning the other cheek and loving your enemies, Matthew features some of the most challenging aspects of Christianity.

In this, I will take analysis from experts who are from religions or from academia or just plain Joes who love to study the word.

A few baselines include this: I am not an expert on the Bible. However, I am an expert on trying to understand the word from a layman’s perspective, a person who has taken these words and tried to live by them.

I first analyzed the Book of Matthew when a young friend in college mentioned it to me. She said that it had impacted her spirituality a great deal, though she was not a religious person.

During those years, I adopted it into a mantra of life. The words of Jesus influenced me though I have never really been a religious person. I have adopted it into a philosophy of life, one that all of us should consider.

So, to come to this analysis at this stage of my life is interesting and fulfilling. I hope to be able to look at what is said in Matthew and try to decipher the meaning.

I realize that some people try to distort these words so that they can mean what they want them to mean. That is not my goal.

My hope is to look at what is being said and how it will help us live our lives. That sounds simple … but we shall see.

Every week, as I prepare to celebrate the Lord’s Day, what the ancient Jews called the Sabbath, rather than going to a church, I am preparing to read and try to interpret Matthew.

Please join me if you are interested.

You can leave comments below, or contact me via email at the address below.

I will reply each week, perhaps not right away, but will not ignore any comments.

So, read the beatitudes and the words of Dr. Siri about how revolutionary the Sermon on the Mount was. I pegged it as a lesson, but it is just a look at some interesting aspects of Matthew's ministry as a reporter, one who tells us what he heard Jesus say.
